As of January 1, 2026, hosting a project on our REDCap platform is now more affordable. We've lowered the cost to run any registry or non-regulated clinical trial by removing the Regulatory Bundle and the associated $500 annual fee.

Advanced suport hours allow researchers to access expert REDCap support from the CHI across a wide variety of topics including:

  • Consultation on overall project setup and design
  • Exploring REDCap capabilities and functionalities to meet a specific workflow need
  • Consultation on feature or module implementation
  • Troubleshooting project specific issues
  • And much more! Contact us for more information.
Advanced support hours renew each year upon payment of the annual platform fee, and do not roll over from year to year.

Additional Support

Additional CHI support is always available when the annual advanced support hours for a project have been used. Such support is scoped and estimated at our hourly rate of $150.

Loyalty Discount

Researchers with 3 or more projects on the CHI’s REDCap platform will have a 15% discount applied to all annual platform fees!

Compliant Clinical Trial Tier (CCTT)

The Compliant Clinical Trial Tier (CCTT) meets the specific requirements of Health Canada or FDA regulated clinical trials.

Health Canada or FDA regulated clinical trails are required to subscribe to the CCTT. This ensures that all regulatory requirements are met and that we can best support in the event of an audit.

One of the best ways to generate a clean dataset is to ensure consistent and complete data entry.

CHI’s REDCap Training is designed to teach study teams about entering data in REDCap and the associated features, including:

  • The Record Status Dashboard and associated icons
  • How to create, rename and delete records
  • Data entry in different field types
  • Data queries and comment resolution
  • And more!

Individuals who successfully complete CHI’s REDCap Training will receive a Certificate of Completion recognizing their achievement.

Frequently asked questions

Why do you charge an annual fee for the use of REDCap?

The CHI is a cost recovery unit, and we do not generate profit from the REDCap annual fees we collect, or the expert support we provide to researchers. We work hard to keep our fees and support estimates as low as possible with an awareness of limited research budgets, while also ensuring we can cover our operating costs and continue to provide our services to researchers across the university.

I still want some of the perks included in the Regulatory Bundle, like the REDCap Training and Data Management Plan (DMP). Can I purchase these items individually?

Yes, you absolutely can! We've split those items into individual purchases so you can easily customize your purchase and only buy exactly what you need.

If I don’t need REDCap for a full year, can I get a discount?

In some cases, annual REDCap fees can be pro-rated for less than a year. Please reach out to us at chi@ucalgary.ca to be connected with our finance team.

I paid for a REDCap project but now I don’t need it. Can I get a refund?

Unfortunately, the CHI is not able to offer refunds of any kind.

Can I transfer my REDCap fee to a different REDCap project?

No, REDCap fees are non-transferrable.

Can I change my service tier if my project needs change?

Service tiers (Basic, Plus, Premium) can be changed up to one month prior to renewal of the annual REDCap fee for the project. The CCTT, however, cannot be changed.

I have exported my data, and I would like to close my REDCap project. What are the next steps?

Please send us an email at chi@ucalgary.ca. You will be asked to complete a project closure form prior to project deletion.

My project is complete, but I don’t want to lose my data. What are my options?

Projects can be archived for $200/year, but please note that the CHI and our REDCap platform are not intended for long term storage. Study teams do not have direct access to archived REDCap projects, and the CHI can support with any required exports. No support hours are included in this fee.
